scotland | first moments in edinburgh.

After what might have been the most hilarious airport situation involving Ryan Air’s baggage allowance*, Kelly & I made it to Edinburgh. We arrived just after 7am and were completely exhausted from the no sleep that was had the night before. It was pouring rain, which made for quite the walk from our bus stop to our hotel. On the way, we stumbled on the cutest little cafe (I so wish I could remember what it was called!) and had a quick bite before passing out for the most necessary naps of all naps. We woke up feeling so much better and walked down the street (yay for no more rain!) only to discover another adorable cafe where we indulged in fresh paninis, sipped on lattes and people watched. Bliss I say.
* I had never flown Ryan Air before and Kelly had told me that even though the airline had a baggage weight limit, they rarely check. Knowing my luck, this only meant they would check our bags, and sure enough they did. We were each 2kg over the weight limit. What did that mean? Oh yes, we had to wear those 2kg of clothing. We each had on three pairs of pants, three shirts, a sweater, a jacket, two scarves and two pairs of socks. Picture this: it’s 5:30am and two crazy girls are sitting on the floor by the airline check-in killing themselves laughing as they’re layering up like nobody’s business. Families were looking, pointing, laughing and taking pictures. Then, when their suitcases get weighed for the second time and they’re still overweight, they lost their minds laughing even more and the airline attendant was so scared he let them go anyway. It was ridiculous. We looked ridiculous. And with no sleep, we were completely delirious walking to our gate so we started singing ‘Feed The Birds’ from Mary Poppins because we felt like bag ladies. That was a special moment.
